2009 Race Dates announced

Chevin Cycles LogoNEW SEASON, NEW HQ

Cliff has just sent me some information and dates for the 2009 season. The events section is being brought up-to-date. Also the Series details have will be updated with the new prices. Summary and briefing from Cliff below. Also: we have Facebook group now.

There have been problems finding a suitable HQ  for the Boroughbridge races in 2009. None of the surrounding village halls were available on a Tuesday night as they were all taken up by scouting groups. However, we have found a place and we feel it offers us better facilities than any other HQ we have had. The venue is,

The Malt Shovel,
St James Square
Boroughbridge
YO51 9AR

There is plenty of room inside the pub should the weather be bad, or there is a patio area should the weather be good. There is ample parking behind the pub or a free public car park about 200 metres away. PLEASE USE THE CAR PARKS AND NOT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO LEAVE YOUR CARS.

There is food available at the bar and of course they sell drinks as well.

We will be using the Walshford course for the first race as this is the easiest to marshall, and the Kirby hill course only once as we had problems from the farmer this year, hedge trimming, sheep moving etc.

A point on marshalling. We had plenty of volunteers this year and we were pleased with the response, apart from a very few who appeared to shy off of doing it. Just remember, you only need to do it once, it’s of great benefit to the series, this is the only way we can keep it going. So if you can put your names on the sheets early and give us a bit of notice, it helps us to plan ahead.

A point on TLI membership. We are unable to join people up to the TLI on the day. The only thing we can supply is “Day membership” but this can be costly, so if you plan to ride the series, then send of your application to:

Rob Blackburn
167, Arnold Avenue,
Charnock,
Sheffield
S12 3JD

We will be having 3 groups again, but if there are any youngsters or real novices, then they will be put out the front, forming a 4th group
There will be a series of 8 races for 2009, with 5 plus 1 marshall duty to count towards the overall points.

The racing in the 2008 series was excellent and the sportsmanship of the riders was commendable. We hope to continue in this vein.
We have to remember that it’s TLI and the TLI policy is “ it’s racing for everyone”

We had some very good comments about the website during the last series. It is all down to Russell Brown ( YRC )  and also a series rider, so thanks to  Russell who will be running the site again for the 3rd  year. ;)

2008 Season Summary

Giles Pidcock, overall winner for the 3rd time. WELL DONE GILES.The final podium

Steve Whitehurst, 2nd overall, first time in the top three.

New comer, Callum Sewell, finishing 3rd in his first series. He had a good 2nd on Milby in his first race, then followed it up by a win on Bishopwood, to surprise everyone.

The category winners were: 1st junior…Callum Sewell, with a 3rd place overall, with big sister Iona, with some gutsy rides finishing 1st Lady. Over 60 Malcolm Robinson, retaining his title of last year, a seasoned rider of LVRC events.

The over 50’s was the closest it’s been, between Trevor Larcombe and Dave Goodall, with Trevor coming out on top.

The over 40’s went to Carl Saint, one of the most rated riders in Yorkshire.

Thomas Warren, 14, Archie Cross and Luke Simpson, just some of the younger riders who rode some of the series and who all faired well. If only we had a few more of these youngsters, we could have a great little group to compete in their own right.

A big Thank You to all who rode the series and the riders who marshalled.

A great big thank you to Russell Brown of the Yorkshire Road club who designed and runs the website for the series, a very good job done Russell.

Also a big, big Thank you to Peter Mason and Jane Ramsdale who turn out to help with the lead car, line judging and marshalling, without them we would not manage.

A big thank you to the Redcross, who had a couple of spills to deal with this year, but nothing too serious thankfully. They are also unpaid volunteers who turn up and follow the riders round.

And last but not least, a big thank you goes to Chevin Cycles who have sponsored the last 2 series, providing prizes for the race winners on the night, and who I am reliably informed will be supporting the series in 2009. Thank You for your support, we really appreciate it.

We will be putting on 8 events next year, watch this space for the dates, times and circuits.

Also, if there is anybody interested in joining the gang who look after the series or anyone who wants to know more, then please get in touch with Cliff on 07790726884.

We need volunteers to cover for holidays.

See you all again next year.

The prize winners
