Welcome to the portal for the 2008 Chevin Cycles TLI Road Race series

The series is over and finally the site is up-to-date with the race report, galleries and news. There is some more information to come from Cliff with regards to funds and charitable donations.

2008 Season Summary

Giles Pidcock, overall winner for the 4th time, a 100% record in the 3 years the series has been running. WELL DONE GILES.The final podium

Steve Whitehurst, 2nd overall, first time in the top three and the first Chevin rider to make the top 3.

New comer, Callum Sewell, finishing 3rd in his first series. He had a good 2nd on Milby in his first race, then followed it up by a win on Bishopwood, to surprise everyone.

The category winners were: 1st junior…Callum Sewell, with a 3rd place overall, with big sister Iona, with some gutsy rides finishing 1st Lady. Over 60 Malcolm Robinson, retaining his title of last year, a seasoned rider of LVRC events.

The over 50’s was the closest it’s been, between Trevor Larcombe and Dave Goodall, with Trevor coming out on top.

The over 40’s went to Carl Saint, one of the most rated riders in Yorkshire.

Thomas Warren, 14, Archie Cross and Luke Simpson, just some of the younger riders who rode some of the series and who all faired well. If only we had a few more of these youngsters, we could have a great little group to compete in their own right.

A big Thank You to all who rode the series and the riders who marshalled.

A great big thank you to Russell Brown of the Yorkshire Road club who designed and runs the website for the series, a very good job done Russell.

Also a big, big Thank you to Peter Mason and Jane Ramsdale who turn out to help with the lead car, line judging and marshalling, without them we would not manage.

A big thank you to the Redcross, who had a couple of spills to deal with this year, but nothing too serious thankfully. They are also unpaid volunteers who turn up and follow the riders round.

And last but not least, a big thank you goes to Chevin Cycles who have sponsored the last 2 series, providing prizes for the race winners on the night, and who I am reliably informed will be supporting the series in 2009. Thank You for your support, we really appreciate it.

We will be putting on 8 events next year, watch this space for the dates, times and circuits.

Also, if there is anybody interested in joining the gang who look after the series or anyone who wants to know more, then please get in touch with Cliff on 07790726884.

We need volunteers to cover for holidays.

See you all again next year.

The prize winners

Lands End to John O'Groats in 7 days

Series rider John Oldridge has decided to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats in 7 days to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. "They were really good looking after my Dad who died of cancer at the end of last year", explains John. He will be setting off from Land's End on 3rd August and hopes to arrive at John O'Groats on 9th August. That works out at about 140 miles per day! John's mum and sister will be supporting him and carrying all of his kit in the car.

Below is a link to his fund raising page. The race organisers and John would appreciate it if you would sponsor him for this epic ride!

Please pass this on to anybody else who might be interested in sponsoring John.

Route Maps Added

Thanks to one of the series' riders (Hamish Robertshaw, step forward, take a bow!) we now have some excellent Bikely.com route maps for some of the race courses. I'll be adding more as I get them. Many thanks to Hamish. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for the site please bring them up.

See them in the courses section.

Cut Price Entry for Juniors And Juveniles

To help encourage younger riders to take part we now have cut price entry for junior and juvenile riders who wish to ride the series.
NB: Prices are for Juniors/Juveniles with a TLI licence. Day licences can be bought when you sign on.

Prices are now as follows:
  • Juniors:- £4 per race
  • Juveniles:- £2 per race

As well as the very low price for young riders the series is very safe too. We have :
  • lead and follow cars with roof-top, flashing hazard warning lights
  • Marshals at every turn and roundabout
  • Lots of warning signs and signposts

So the Chevin Cyles TLI series really is the best way for young riders to get a start in road racing. Come along and try it!

D B Photography to Cover 2008 Series

dbphotographylogoDerek Boocock Photography will be covering some of the events in the 2008 Chevin Cycles TLI race series. You can see (and BUY!) the results of his work on his website D B Photograph. I'll add links to the specific galleries as and when they appear. Check out the diary pages on his site for details of the specific events to be covered.

2008 Race Dates announced

Chevin Cycles LogoNEW COURSE FEATURES IN NINE RACE SERIES

THANK YOU TO ALL FOR THE FEEDBACK. THIS IS THE OUTCOME OF IT:

The majority seem to want to keep the series as it is, but we have added 1 race to it making a 9 race series. It will be on a flat course at Selby (Bishopwood ), this is a trial course and if it works, we may keep it.

The points system will be as follows:

50 points for a win down to 41 points at 10th place, the remaining riders will be awarded 30 points.
There will be 3-2-1 points over the line for one lap of every race, the actual lap will be announced on the night. More details on the series page.
We will be running the races with 3 groups, depending on numbers, with maybe a few novices out front.
As you will notice from the race details, we are no longer using Coronation Hall. The people who run the hall have decided not to hire the hall out to any cycling organization again. So we have had to switch to Boroughbridge Leisure Centre and Wistow Village Hall.

Prices:
  • Members: 9 race series. £49.50
  • Members on the line: £6.50
  • Non Members on the line: £10.50 ( to include day licence ) (See here for how to join the TLI )

Latest News

NEWS FOR 2008 RACES

I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM CLUB SECRETARIES AND INDIVIDUALS.

My aim is to make some changes to the points system and would like some feedback on which night would be preferred for the races, a change to Thursday nights has been suggested. I personally, would prefer to stay with Tuesdays, but I need to know what the riders want.
The points: I want to keep the 50points for a win down to 41points for a tenth place, but then give 30points for the rest. I then want to add 3.2.1. points for say laps 2 and 4 to the first group or groups across the line.
After I receive some opinions, then I will go with the majority.

These are your races and if you have any thoughts on how they should be run, then let me know, I welcome your ideas. You can let me know via this website.
Regards Cliff Beldon

Feedback Form Here

Due to the size of the field at the last race, we have ended up with a surplus of £130 in the fund. We propose to carry this forward to the next series to enhance the prize fund. Chevin Cycles have told us that they are happy to sponsor us again next year.

The organizers wish to congratulate all the riders who conducted themselves well over the series and helped out with the marshalling of the events. We would like you to know that this is your race series and any input or ideas can be put forward through the website.

Please have a look at the final standings and the final club standings.

The 2007 Chevin Cycles TLI Road Race series is being run differently to previous years. This year there is just one series of eight races. The events are run every fortnight from the 24th April to the 31st July. Each entrant to the series is asked to marshall for one event. More details here.

The series is run under TLI regulations and organised by Cliff Beldon.

This website has just been started and I hope to add a lot more information as time goes on. For now you should be able to see all you need to take part as well as the latest results, upcoming events and an up to date points table for the series.

Please use the contact form to give any feed back you have about the series and any suggestions for the site. We will publish rider feedback here.

There may be some news.
