Race 1 Walshford
Scott Thwaites wins in the sprint beating Giles Pidcock into 2nd.
The first race of the series saw a big field, on the lumpy Walshford course. First on the road were juveniles and ladies, on a fine sunny evening, were away at pace. With group one and two in pursuit. Group three looked really strong with a gap opening almost straight away. First time up the giblet with Jamie Sharp, Giles Pidcock and Simon Beldon wanting to get on with it. But it didn’t last long as the speed on the scratch group knocking out a good pace. By lap 2, newcomer Michael Knight, Team Chevin Bang/Olufsen, took the prime to earn himself 3 points, with Keith McKay 2nd and Tim Jackson 3rd.
The first 3 groups were all together after 20 miles, with the scratch group still chasing. With 5 miles to go to the finish, the scratch group were within striking distance, still flying along at an average speed of 27.5 mph. Half way up the last climb, Scott Thwaites launched himself across the gap of 600 metres, with awesome power, bridging the gap alone. He was followed by Jamie Sharp and ( hand sling ) Giles Pidcock, when finally they were all together with 3 miles to go. Last time up the giblet a sprint finish with the strongest rider of the night, Scott Thwaites getting the win. A great ride by come back rider, after a lot of years out of the sport was Ged Millward, finishing 5th. New team Moonglu had Andy Noble placed in 7th. To finish in the top ten on this night, you needed top form.
There were 14 newcomers to TLI racing and three of them contested the prime. As prime specialist, Marc Help was on marshal duty it was left to team mate, junior, Michael Knight, to take the prime.
