Race 7 - Aldborough

Giles Pidcock gets hat trick.

In the penultimate Chevin Cycles race, on a warm, calm evening, the Scratch group bridged the small time gap very quickly to group 3. I suspect team tactics were evident on the night, with group 3 playing the waiting game. When they finally got going, they had caught group 2 by 15 miles, which left 3 riders in the lead, Chris Hope, Mik Powell and newcomer Richard Reynolds, who were working very well together. These three stayed out front until they were caught by 20 miles.

First, Mike Gill, Team Chevin, made a bid for glory, then it was the turn of Nick Butcher, Clifton cc.

The battle continued between Chevin and Clifton, each fireing riders off the front in turn, until 6 miles to go when Barry Mordue took advantage and got away, but was quickly joined by Paul Musgrave, Chris Clark and Giles Pidcock. They held their slender lead to the finish, where sprint specialist, Giles Pidcock, took the flag, with Barry Mordue  closing fast. Paul Musgrave took 3rd and Chris Clark 4th.

The race for 1st overall will go to the last race on Milby. With Matt Mannakee on Marshall duty this week, it could be a close finish on Milby.

The team “TED BELL SHIELD” will also go to the wire, with Clifton 1 placing to the good over Yorkshire Road Club.

Over 60 rider Malcolm Robinson has won the vet 60 trophy with his 8th place in the sprint  this week.

Over 40, over 50 and Junior prizes, will not be presented to the riders who finish in the top 3 overall.
